之前种种迹象表明，Windows Codename Longhorn Server很可能沿用之前的命名习惯，将Longhorn Server命名为Windows Server "年号"，终于微软证实了这一消息：“Windows Server 2008”成为Longhorn Server的正式称谓。另外，Windows Server 2008 Beta 3的下载已经达到10万次。
同时，微软也发布了其外包装盒的图片，依然采用Vista的包装盒。请看下图：
